    Please people, don't use creasant wrenches on your boat motor. They are made for farmers, find the proper wrench for the bolt or nut.

    I have the same boat. and cruise NorCal from a week in Tomales Bay to a week down to Monterey. We rarely use the shower, go ashore to use out houses or ashore heads where possible, and have never used more than maybe 20gal of the 150. All drinking water is bottled. However, I am used to sailing on a Cat27, where both the freshwater and blackwater are both 6gal or less.

    How did you pull it off? The studs are just long enough to prevent removal due to that arm on the back. I’m at anchor now, and have a spare.

      It's been a bit too long and forget the details. But, I recall I had to grind down a wrench to slip it onto the stud nuts. Good luck.

    • @winty
      @winty Год назад

      In the narrow fairway between slips the boat would point downwind. I could not consistently turn her upwind, so backing astern was the safest solution.

    you cant be timid with a single inboard. Look at the lobster boats. Frequent and judicious use of power is S.O.P. for these captains.

    it is probably an amp for speakers or a bull horn type speaker. A line signal is too low/weak to move speaker drivers, they need an amplifier to produce audible sound. I could be for an intercom or just a whole boat stereo system. In a system like i would suspect is on your boat the speakers are probably run in series, so the need more power than your stereo/ intercom can produce to operate without distortion. Or not, that is what it looks like to me though.

    Considering how much you've saved over the time you owned that boat by doing much of the work yourself, that probably more than covered the total bill for this haul-out; so all in all a good deal. I had no idea LB Marina Yard had a lift-and-rail system, that's pretty sweet -- and a lot less sketchy than a crane. If my boat was on a crane I wouldn't watch; too much anxiety.

    Some of the toughest conditions in which to dock a powerboat with no keel to speak of and only one screw. We had similar difficulty docking our Columbia 50 at the ABYC boat basin, because we would back in and the hull had a fairly high profile toward the bow and the wind would want to grab the boat and turn it around toward the entrance. Even with the keel we'd have to back toward the slip at an angle and catch the transom between the fingers just right, quick bump in reverse and 🤞it would glide in the rest of the way. Putting it in bow first would cause problems backing out, and the ABYC basin isn't all that big so not much room to maneuver a big boat when the wind is up.

    Why why why do people use thread-tape on diesel fittings. The number of D-series Ford injector pumps and liftpumps I see every month with the thread tape right up inside them is crazy. Plumbers or gas fitters Thread-tape has no place being anywhere diesel. Yes it can help stop leaks but it softens and dissolves with the diesel.

    Finally Lehman have done away with that useless long style raw-water pump and copied our NZ style pump thats been in use here for probaly 40plus years. You can tap out the threads in the rear to 3/16 UNC and do away with those terrible bronze screws in favour of s/s ones.

    This harkens me back to a painful day on our Cal 36 'way back in the 1960s. On our way back into Alamitos Bay I was sitting at the tiller while when my dad tripped the mainsail halyard, but beforehand he'd forgotten to secure the topping lift. The boom crashed down right on the top of my head and it's a wonder I didn't get knocked out. But it hurt like hell; left a nice big knot right on top of my head. I noticed the topping lift was not hooked at the precise moment my dad tripped the halyard; no time to react. That was a new experience in pain.

    Winty you always have these really interesting videos, but few watchers. I'm not getting why. Is it because most trawler owners don't want to hear it? Then again, my biggest concern with a trawler is windage at anchor. Anchors and chain too small, high towers of enclosed canvass, and nothing about a riding sail. Rocker stoppers at anchor? Davits as a poor way of carrying your dingy? Use of rubber dingys over hard?

  • @mikenagy938

    The first thing I check if no coolant water is coming out is the intake screen. It can easily suck a plastic bag or other debris.

    Hey Winty. This is off subject for this video but the video in question has the comments turned off. 5 years ago you posted about your Kubota generator in your boat. I was wondering if you still have it and if I could pick your brain a bit about it. I have the same engine set up as an APU and it overheats after about 10 minutes but it runs great during that time. So I'm not sure what is going on with it. Thanks man !
